His Story

Aidenn Goode of Cedar Rapids, Iowa was 8 years old when the full weight of his journey became known to the world. But his fight had begun long before that.

From early in his life, Aidenn was living with a rare genetic mutation called P10 — a condition that attacks the intestines and disrupts the body's ability to absorb nutrients. What most children take for granted — eating, digesting, growing — was a daily battle for Aidenn. The mutation led to progressive intestinal failure, and without proper absorption, his blood sugar became dangerously and unpredictably low, a condition known as hypoglycemia.

His body was working against him. But Aidenn never stopped.

The Fight

When one battle ends, another begins. Aidenn faced them all.

The Beginning

A Rare Diagnosis: P10

Aidenn was diagnosed with a rare genetic mutation called P10 — a defect that causes the intestines to fail, leaving the body unable to absorb the nutrients it needs to function. It is an invisible war fought inside every day.

The Complications

Intestinal Failure & Hypoglycemia

As the intestinal failure progressed, Aidenn's blood sugar became dangerously unstable. Hypoglycemia — life-threatening drops in blood glucose — became part of everyday life. Doctors knew that without a dramatic intervention, the path forward was impossible.

The Turning Point

The Multi-Organ Transplant

The only path forward: a multi-organ transplant — liver, pancreas, and lower intestines. Three organs. One surgery. One chance. His family packed everything and relocated 300+ miles from home, away from their community and everything familiar, to give Aidenn that chance.

The Darkest Hour

Epstein-Barr Virus & Cancer

In the vulnerable weeks after transplant, Aidenn contracted the Epstein-Barr virus. In a cruel twist, the virus triggered cancer. His prognosis turned terminal. The family that had already given everything now faced the possibility of losing him completely.

The Answer

Remission

Aidenn fought. His family fought with him. His medical team fought for him. And against all of the odds stacked against an 8-year-old boy — the cancer went into remission. He won.

The Transplant

To save Aidenn's life, doctors had to replace three vital organs — liver, pancreas, and lower intestines — in a single, extraordinarily complex procedure.

His family uprooted their lives and moved more than 300 miles from Cedar Rapids to be near the hospital. Brendan and Anika left their community, their routines, and their support system — alongside Aidenn's two younger siblings, ages 4 years and 8 months — so that their son could have every possible chance.

The Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) gave them a place to call home during those long, uncertain months. Without that roof over their heads, being present for Aidenn through every step would have been nearly impossible.

"This transplant is not just a medical procedure — it's his chance to truly live. To grow, to thrive, and to experience a life free from constant medical complications."

When It Got Worse

Surviving a multi-organ transplant should have been the end of the hardest chapter. For Aidenn, it became the beginning of an even darker one.

After the transplant, Aidenn contracted the Epstein-Barr virus. In his immunocompromised state, the virus triggered cancer. His diagnosis shifted from critical to terminal. The family that had already sacrificed everything now faced the unimaginable — being told they might lose him.

They never stopped fighting. Neither did Aidenn.

He Won.

Terminal. That was the word they used.

Xcancer

In the middle of one of the hardest seasons of his life, Xcancer gave Aidenn something priceless — a moment of pure joy. A ride in a Ferrari. An experience that reminded a fighting 8-year-old that life is still full of incredible things worth fighting for.

Ronald McDonald House Charities

When Aidenn's family had to relocate more than 300 miles from home, the Ronald McDonald House gave them shelter, warmth, and a community. They made it possible for Brendan, Anika, and Aidenn's younger siblings to stay close — to be a family — through every procedure, every setback, and every victory.

Strength Lives On

Aidenn Goode is a survivor. What he carries is not just a medical history — it's proof that the human spirit, given enough love and enough fight, refuses to break.

His family is still on this journey. The medical costs, the travel, the time lost — none of it is over. But Aidenn is here. He is growing. And that changes everything.
